Lift and Slide doors are a way to make large wide portions of a wall open to the outdoors all at once.  They bring the outside indoors by making a much larger opening.  Lift and slides are quite energy efficient. When the panel is not open, it is stationary and not on wheels like a traditional slider door.  When the doors are in the open position, they can be stacked on one or both sides of the room or alternately, doors can be put into a pocket that makes them go away completely from the ascetics of the space. 

The project below is in a townhouse where the maximum opening was desired. The door was finished with a quarter sawn oak trim and header.
