Hanson Carlen Architecture & Construction is excited to announce the great honor of receiving the Chrysalis National Award for remodeling. Continuing to set new standards of professionalism, seventy-nine companies from across the United States were named winners at the 2022 Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence. The entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure. You can view the award here

This project was submitted in the category for commercial remodels under $500k. The original building that was purchased and remodeled was purchased as an Avis car rental company in the early 1970s. Later it was turned into a company named Rent-a-Wreck in the 1980s.  After Hanson Carlen purchased the building for use as our own office, we decided to keep the original footprint and basic exterior shape, as the City of Spokane was more willing to give us their blessing. So, our architect, Janette was commissioned to transform this tired old, worn out ‘Rent-a-Wreck’ into a beautiful new building, which was not a simple task.  

 We began by creating an area which we call, “The Selections Room” for our clients. In this space, we display a variety of selections for them to choose from, specifically items that we think might be exactly what they are looking for in a project.  

 On the second floor of our office, we have a lunchroom, another room in which we keep office supplies, and a room designated for hardware and flooring selections with display stands. 

 All of the masonry, millwork, and cabinetry in our new office building was skillfully milled by our Hanson Carlen expert craftsmen over a period of about 2 years.  The elite and beautiful casing and base trim was carefully milled in our shop and is a real showpiece of craftsmanship.

Along with this year’s award, Hanson Carlen has won five other Chrysalis awards over the last five years. In addition to the Chrysalis awards, Hanson Calen has won six specialty awards through the Qualified Remodeler magazine.
