Our office

Our architecture and business office is just off the Maple Street exit in downtown Spokane—watch for our sign as you exit I-90. We fully remodeled our building, once a ‘Rent a Wreck’ rental agency, proving how good planning and craftsmanship can transform the old and poorly designed into something beautiful. Our cabinet shop and construction yard are in Deer Park, just north of Spokane

Hanson Carlen, a premier architect in Spokane, has been designing and building custom homes and remodels since 1975. As Spokane’s oldest family-owned architecture and construction firm, we blend award-winning architectural design with luxury craftsmanship to create timeless homes in the Spokane area.

Founded by Dewey Hanson in 1975, our roots trace back to the 1940s when Dewey and his brother Lyle honed their craft alongside their father, amassing 25 years of custom home-building experience in the Midwest. After relocating to Spokane, Dewey established Hanson Carlen as a trusted architect and builder, delivering innovative designs and superior construction. When Dewey retired, the legacy continued through his sons, David and Tom (retired 2019), and son-in-law, Dana Carlen (retired 2014), ensuring our commitment to architectural excellence endures.
