Our office

Our architecture and business office is conveniently located off the Maple Street exit in downtown Spokane; look for the sign as you exit the I90 freeway. We fully remodeled our location, which for years was a rental car agency called ‘Rent a Wreck”… a good example of how, with good planning and craftsmanship, something old and poorly designed can be transformed into something useful and beautiful. Our cabinet shop and construction yard is in Deer Park, just North of Spokane.

Our History

Hanson-Carlen Architecture & Construction is a family owned business that has built and remodeled custom homes in the Spokane area since 1975. We are Spokane’s oldest custom and luxury home building company.

Dewey Hanson started the business in 1975 when he moved his family here from the Midwest. Prior to 1975, he and his brother Lyle worked alongside of their father in the 1940's and 1950's, spending 25 years in custom home building. When Dewey retired, the business was passed on to his two sons, David and Tom (retired 2019), and his son-in-law, Dana Carlen (retired 2014).
