Chrysalis Award – Regional  Winner Additions 100K-250K

Continuing to set new standards of professionalism, 92 remodeling companies from across the United States were named winners at the 2015 Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence. The entries were judged on overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.
In the Richardson Hanson Carlen was asked to remove a 1970’s family room that had been grafted onto a classic 1920’s house. We were to replace it with an architecturally appropriate addition

“Hanson Carlen has won three Chrysalis Awards in the past five years, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to professionalism and excellence,” says Ken Kanline director of the program.

Master Design Award – Bathrooms >$50k Bronze

We are pleased to announce that we have received a BRONZE AWARD as part of the 2010 QR MASTER DESIGN AWARDS for our work on the Thronson Master Bathroom we finished up last year. This is special since several hundred entries from around the nation are entered into this contest by the top companies in our business. The project was featured in the September issue of Qualified Remodeler Magazine.

The clients wanted a master bathroom that provides three important elements: organization, a feminine feel, and a touch of masculinity. To achieve organization, built-in cabinetry was designed to accommodate not only their clothing and linens but also their individual hygiene and beauty items. The bathroom accommodates the mother and the couple’s daughters while they prepare for their day; so everything from the colors to cabinet details were chosen to emit a classic feminine feel. Finally, the creation of a closet for the father, with dark and knotty built-in cabinetry allowed him to have his own masculine space away from the femininity of the bathroom.

Remodeling Magazine
Awarded the Big 50

Hanson Carlen Construction, specialists in upscale residential design-build, has been named to Remodeling magazine’s annual Big50 List. Hanson Carlen was specifically recognized for “Fine Design” a category honoring builders with high aesthetic standards for their projects.  “We are honored to be selected to join this elite group of remodeling professionals,” says David Hanson- one of the company’s principals.  “We have been one of Spokane’s finest residential builders for over thirty years, and we were very blessed to be recognized nationally as a top company.”

Every year since 1986 Remodeling magazine has inducted fifty new members into an elite group called the Big50.  The name is something of a misnomer since the honor is bestowed on companies of all sizes. The Big50 comprises individuals who demonstrate exemplary business practices, unique design sensibilities, and exceptional management skill, which elevates them above their peers.

Remodeling editors, columnists, industry leaders, and individual companies themselves make the coveted nominations each year.  Hanson Carlen was asked to apply for the award by Leah Thayer, the magazine’s Senior Editor in September of 2008.  Following a lengthy evaluation process, which includes hundreds of candidates, the final candidates submit financial papers, and end with an intense interview, further narrowing the top companies. Remodeling editors then select the final fifty companies who exemplify the very best of the industry that year, and who have something to offer other remodelers in proven practices.  Winners are selected in eight categories: Business Savvy, Fine Design, Industry Impact, Market Wise, Movers & Shakers, Niches, Sales and Marketing, and Teamwork. Hanson Carlen was presented the award at a gala dinner at the Remodeling Leadership Conference in Alexandria, Va. on May 15, 2009. Hanson Carlen will be featured in the May issue of Remodeling magazine, a national trade publication read by more than 80,000 professionals.

Remodeling magazine, published by Hanley Wood, LLC, is the leading publication in the home improvement industry. Designed to address the specific concerns of residential remodeling pros, the magazine is both a business tool and an industry leader for the market.
